**Character Arc (Flaw/Want) Sheet**
How to use this sheet. Tie your shard of glass, flaw, want, broken compass and need into each other! If you need inspiration, think of TV characters you can relate your character to. Everything below should be external. So we don’t want a need for our character to be, “They want to be happy”. Instead using something external like, “They want to start a family” because that would make them happy. Fill out the Flaw, Shard of Glass, Want, Broken Compass, Need, and Rooting Resume.
## Flaw
---
- (What is the main thing that this character struggles against when living their life?)
- ex; Distrusting. They do not trust other people. They won’t accept their help, or believe the promises they make. They often think everyone has a plan to screw them over.
## **What is their shard of glass?**
---
- (The shard of glass is the event or thing that caused the “flaw”.)
- ex; When young, the first friend they made at work betrayed them, causing themselves to lose their job and then their house. When they confronted the person, they revealed they were only their friendship to get ahead. This is the reason why they have the flaw “untrustworthy”.
## **Want**
---
- Wants are not good things. They are usually a thing the character wants that reinforces their flaw. This is what the character thinks they need, but in fact, it is an obstacle to their character's growth.
- ex; They want to grow in power so they are strong enough that know one can hurt them.
## **Broken compass**
---
- How do they attempt to get their “want”? What is the bad behavior or wrong approach in order to make that happen?
- ex; They don’t take risks where they have to rely on other people, and they take risks where they know the outcome can give them power. Because they are untrusting, they do everything themselves and try to control everything. If they do things this way, they can never be betrayed.
## **Need**
---
- This is the real thing that will help grow their character. The thing they need to move the character forward.
- ex; They need to allow themselves to trust in other people, and realize no amount of power can truly protect them, but they can trust in certain people.
## **Rooting resume**
---
- Why should people love this character? 3-5 reasons why someone would like this character:
- External things this character does, not internal “they really a good person deep down”.
